About the ARK Venture Fund

The ARK Venture Fund (ARK Fund or the Fund) is an actively managed fund that seeks long-term growth of capital. It seeks to achieve this investment objective by investing under normal circumstances, primarily in equity securities of companies that are relevant to the theme of disruptive innovation.

Australian wholesale investors can access the Fund through the Australian Feeder fund.

ARK defines “disruptive innovation” as the introduction of a new, technologically enabled product or service with the potential to change the way the world works.

The Fund seeks to democratise venture capital by providing Australian wholesale investors with access to some of the world’s most innovative private companies throughout their market lifecycles. Some of the current holdings within the portfolio include OpenAI, Anthropic and Kalshi.

Companies within the ARK Fund include those that rely on or benefit from the development of new products or services, technological improvements and advancements in scientific research relating to (but not limited to) the areas of:

The NAV of the FUND is determined each business day as the close of trading (ordinarily 4:00pm US Eastern time) on the New York Stock Exchange. Any assets or liabilities denominated in currencies other than the U.S. dollar are converted into U.S. dollars at the current market rates on the date of valuation as quoted by one or more sources. Cathie registered ARK Investment Management LLC (“ARK”) as an investment adviser with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in January 2014. With over 40 years of experience identifying and investing in innovation, Cathie founded ARK to focus solely on disruptive innovation while adding new dimensions to research. Through an open approach that cuts across sectors, market capitalizations, and geographies, Cathie believes that ARK can identify large-scale investment opportunities in the public markets resulting from technological innovations centered around multiomic sequencing, robotics, artificial intelligence, energy storage, and blockchain technology. As Chief Investment Officer (“CIO”) and Portfolio Manager, Cathie led the development of ARK’s philosophy and investment approach and has ultimate responsibility for investment decisions.

Prior to ARK, Cathie spent twelve years at AllianceBernstein as CIO of Global Thematic Strategies where she managed over $5 billion. Cathie joined Alliance Capital from Tupelo Capital Management, a hedge fund she co-founded, which in 2000, managed approximately $800 million in global thematic strategies. Prior to her tenure at Tupelo Capital, she worked for 18 years with Jennison Associates LLC as Chief Economist, Equity Research Analyst, Portfolio Manager and Director. She started her career in Los Angeles, California at The Capital Group as an Assistant Economist. Cathie received her Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in Finance and Economics from the University of Southern California in 1981.

In 2018, Cathie launched the Duddy Innovation Institute at her alma mater, Notre Dame Academy in Los Angeles. The institute offers a challenging educational experience for young women eager to stretch their learning beyond the boundaries of traditional acquisition of knowledge, while influencing a new way of thinking and learning throughout campus.

Brett joined ARK in January 2014 and has worked alongside Cathie for almost 15 years since their time at AllianceBernstein. As Chief Futurist, Brett drives ARK’s long-term forecasts across convergent technologies, economies, and asset classes, helping ARK dimension the impact of disruptive innovation as it transforms public equities, private equities, cryptoassets, fixed income, and the global economy. Brett also serves on the ARK Venture Investment Committee. Brett joined ARK as Director of Research, guiding and managing the proprietary research of ARK’s investment team.

Prior to ARK, Brett served as a Vice President and Senior Analyst on the Research on Strategic Change team at AllianceBernstein. In that role, Brett conducted thematic research, served on the thematic portfolio’s strategy committee under Cathie Wood’s stewardship, and advised portfolio managers across asset classes. His research topics included Global Energy in the Face of Carbon Dioxide Regulation; Social Media and the Rise of Facebook; the Reformation of the Financial Services Landscape; and the Emergence of Electric Vehicles.

Brett earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Chief Investment Strategist, Private Equity

As Chief Investment Strategist, Private Equity, Charles is responsible for building value in the public-private crossover fund, ARK Venture Fund, and on the public funds: especially across the Multiomics and AI strategies. Under his leadership of the Venture team, assets under management on the private side were built to over $1B overall, in under three years since the inception of privates. Charles joined ARK full time in 2023.

Prior to ARK, Charles’s background was as a deep tech entrepreneur and serial founder with a focus on AI convergences. He has been a cofounder at a number of companies including Freenome, a unicorn of ~400 people working on saving lives through earlier cancer detection. Freenome completed one of the world’s largest ever clinical registrational studies in ~50,000 subjects and submitted PMA to FDA, having raised ~$1.4B from leading investors including Roche, Fidelity, Janus, T. Rowe Price, and VCs including a16z, GV and DCVC. He cofounded other AI/tech-bio companies including (as Chair) Relation, also backed by DCVC co-led with NVIDIA, plus Deerfield and other strategic investors including GSK. Charles also cofounded biotechs Agalimmune (acquired by a Nasdaq-listed company) and Centauri Tx, backed by Novo and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Charles holds four degree-level qualifications, having graduated with degrees in Psychology (BSc., University College London, 2001), in Medicine (University of Dundee, 2002), MRCS ((Ed), 2006), and Masters (MSc., University of Oxford, 2014).
